What is Self-Drive Boat Hire?

Self-drive boat hire lets you be the captain. No need to follow a set tour—just pick up the keys and set your own course. Unlike skippered charters, self-drive is about adventure and privacy. It’s just you, your friends, and the open water. Take the reins for the day, stop for a swim, drop anchor for lunch, or cruise Sydney Harbour at your own speed. Going self-drive means more flexibility, more fun, and a sense of freedom that’s hard to match.

Why Choose Self-Drive in Sydney?

Sydney Harbour is a playground for explorers. When you self-drive here, you’re in charge of your own adventure. Glide past iconic sights like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, zip out to quiet coves, or kick back in a sunny bay with the city skyline as your backdrop. With so many hidden beaches, peaceful anchorages, and safe waters, Sydney is perfect for a day of self-guided boating. Every trip feels unique because the Harbour offers something different each time you visit.

Our Self-Drive Boat Fleet

We take pride in offering boats that are fun, spacious, easy to handle for many different occasions. Our lineup includes two self-drive boats tailored for Sydney’s waterways. Whether you like sleek lines or roomy decks, we’ve got something you’ll love. Ride in comfort with all the gear you need: powerful engines, smooth navigation, and plenty of shade and seating. Our main boat blends sporty performance with the practical touches you want—like a private toilet, Bluetooth speakers, and a handy swim platform.

Who Can Hire a Self-Drive Boat in Sydney?

Ready to hit the water? If you’re 25 or older, have a valid boat license (international boat licenses are OK), and some boating experience, you’re good to go. New to boats? We recommend joining one of our skippered tours first—once you’re comfortable with the controls, you’ll feel right at home as captain. Safe boating comes first, so we’ll check to ensure you’re confident at the helm before handing over the keys.
