The flattest, most sheltered water on the eastern side of the harbour, and our two newest boats sit in the next bay along. Ten minutes from the dock to anchored. No licence needed.
Getting there
Our eastern boats leave from Double Bay, which sits immediately west of Rose Bay. It is about ten minutes on the water — genuinely the shortest run to a good anchorage we have anywhere.
Rose Bay itself is a wide, shallow, protected sweep of water. It stays flat when the rest of the harbour is choppy, which is exactly what you want if the group includes people who are not sure about boats, or if you plan to spend most of the hire at anchor rather than moving.
Because the run is so short, a three-hour hire is effectively three hours of sitting somewhere pleasant. There is no travelling to write off.
The boats
Both leave from Double Bay from October. Fuel is included and a refundable $250 hold applies.
Shaded, with a toilet — up to 8
An 8-metre classic cruiser, shaded end to end, and the only boat we have with a toilet on board. The comfortable choice for a longer day.
Flat deck and a BBQ — up to 8
A 7-metre pontoon with a flat, stable deck and a BBQ with the gas supplied. Built for anchoring up and staying put, which is what Rose Bay is for.
Weekday rates shown — weekends, the 19 December – 26 January peak and public holidays are higher. Marlow and Frankie open for hire in October and are being refitted, so their images show how they will look once finished. We also keep two boats at The Spit in Mosman, including our cheapest.
On the day
Most people anchor off the beach at Lyne Park, at the western end of the bay, and swim from the boat. It is shallow, sheltered and close enough to the dock that you can go back and forth without it eating the hire.
The eastern side towards Point Piper is deeper and quieter if you want to be away from everyone. Shark Island is a short run out from the bay and worth the detour on a calm day, and Watsons Bay is about twenty minutes further east if you want fish and chips at the end of it.
Bring your own food and drink — there is no BYO fee on either boat, and Frankie has the BBQ and an esky if lunch is the point of the day.

Marlow is $495 for three hours or $695 for a day tripper. Frankie is $650 for a half day or $950 for a full day. Both take up to 8 and both include fuel. Those are weekday rates.
